ENERGY & CLEANTECH FORUM

Yesterday afternoon, Business Isle of Man, alongside the Department of Environment, Food & Agriculture (DEFA) and Manx Utilities Authority (MUA), hosted the latest Energy & CleanTech Forum. This brings together public and private sector organisations to discuss developments in the Energy & Cleantech sector.

Kirree Gooberman, Business Development Manager for Energy & CleanTech, kicked off the forum by updating attendees on the work Business Isle of Man is doing in the sector including the agency’s new membership agreement with Cambridge CleanTech.

Cambridge CleanTech works as a global hub for innovation and provides expertise for jurisdictions looking to grow their Energy & Cleantech offering. The organisation will work with Business Isle of Man to develop a proposition to grow the Island’s Energy & CleanTech sector.

During the event, Ian Plenderleith, Managing Director of Islands Energy Group, was announced as Business Isle of Man’s new Energy & CleanTech champion. Ian has over 30 years of experience in the utilities sector including executive roles in water, electricity & gas and will focus on making the Isle of Man the natural choice for green technology.

Graeme Hatcher, Advanced Meter Programme Manager for MUA provided an informative update to attendees on the progress of introducing smart meters into homes and organisations and how the MUA are developing their systems to provide an efficient and affordable network for their customers.

Kristian Cowin, Environmental Health Officer for DEFA, discussed the current Climate Change Action Plan report which the Isle of Man Government has committed to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Following this Dr Ken Milne, Director of Energy Policy led a workshop focussing on a number of actions within the Climate Change Action Plan and discussed how members of the Energy & CleanTech sector can assist in completing these actions.
