Celebrating Women in Business: Sandrina Teece, Creg-Ny-Baa

07 March 2025

To celebrate International Women's Day, we're sharing stories from inspiring women in business on the Isle of Man.

We spoke to Sandrina Teece, owner of the iconic Creg-Ny-Baa, to learn about her journey, standout achievements, and advice for women looking to start or grow a business.

What inspired you to start your business?

To be really honest I didn't want to own a pub!  It was a dream of my late husband who wanted to purchase The Creg and I had never even pulled a pint before! However, I did obviously find myself coming up with good ideas which are still in place today. So sometimes your business might not be your passion but you find you are actually quite good at it which gives you the inspiration to keep going and exploring new ideas.

Can you share a standout moment or achievement that made you feel especially proud?

I have a few!  One is our 10th Anniversary celebration whereby I invited regular customers, suppliers, past & present staff & family to The Creg it was a great night with food, drinks, cake etc and I felt proud that I had got to 10 Years running the Creg.  Another is being a finalist in the Isle of Man Awards of Excellence for the Freedom to Flourish Category.  I took all the staff, we all dressed up and had a fabulous evening and it was a great reflection on how far the business had come with a fantastic team behind me.

What advice would you give to other women looking to start or grow a business?

Make sure to ask friends & family opinions on your ideas as often they will give you an answer that you hadn't though off so run things by them if you are unsure. (Don't put a poll on social media as you will have 300 different ideas/opinions of people!) Be prepared to live, sleep & breathe your business it becomes hard to switch off at times so find that something you can do to switch off.
