BUSINESS ISLE OF MAN AND IOMAC ATTEND DUBLIN’S AEROSPACE & AVIATION ANNUAL SUPPLY CHAIN EVENT

21 December 2018

A team from the Isle of Man Aerospace Cluster (IOMAC) travelled to Dublin on the 13th December to attend the Aerospace and Aviation Annual Supply Chain Event hosted by Enterprise Ireland. The team consisted of Kirree Gooberman (IOMAC Cluster Manager), Chris Allen (General Manager, Triumph), Nick Onyemem (General Manager, Kiartys) and Rob Arthurs (Supply Chain & Planning Manager, Swagelok). It was great to have a strong presence from the Island to be able to show the breadth and quality of our Aerospace and Precision Engineering Sector.

The event was well attended with representation from Aerospace Clusters from Northern and Southern Ireland, NW England, Wales and Hamburg.  It was an excellent opportunity to hear and speak to key industry players including Boeing, Bombardier and Triumph.  All of the Clusters were given an opportunity to provide an update and share their capabilities.

The IOMAC had a double opportunity to share as Kirree Gooberman presented on the IOMAC and how a public / private collaborative approach to addressing skills gaps had resulted in the successful ACE programme and Advance Manufacturing Training Centre (AMTC).  Chris Allen spoke for Triumph on their competencies as well as the history of the Isle of Man site, highlighting the heritage and level of skills we have in the Engineering sector.

The Isle of Man has some fantastic businesses and the conference was a great opportunity to showcase our capabilities. It was great to see the examples we brought to the table of the collaborative approach Government and industry is seen to be class leading.

Rob Arthurs, Supply Chain and Planning Manager at Swagelok commented:

‘It was an excellent opportunity to meet and explore the collective Engineering capability and talent that is on our doorstep as well as providing a conduit to showcase the Isle of Man Manufacturing sector.’

Chris Allen, President of the Chamber of Commerce commented:

‘The event promoted collaboration between the Aerospace Clusters which are located around the Irish Sea; Wales, Southern Ireland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, and North West England. It gave a valuable insight into the capabilities and products produced by the various supply chains. One key benefit was the strengthening of relationships through introductions, networking and discussions. It was a very positive experience.’
