AEROSPACE CLUSTER MEMBER, ASSYSTEM TECHNOLOGIES, WINS MAJOR CONTRACT WITH AIRBUS
05 November 2018
Assystem Technologies have proven yet again their expertise and world-class engineering services after winning the tender as a ‘Dual Partner’ for Airbus in support of Single Aisle Incremental Development (ID) activities for the Airbus A320, as well as work on the Airbus A321 XLR variant.
Jonathan Taylor, Operations Director commented:
‘We are delighted to have been awarded the Single Aisle Incremental Development work with Airbus and are confident that our Aerospace expertise as well as our life-cycle cost optimisation capabilities will deliver the support to Airbus that enable them to meet their aspirations within this program.’
The A320 SAiD is to primarily focus on reducing the recurring cost of the air frame, including systems installation, and increasing the build rate. Given the high cost and quality targets that have been set by Airbus, it shows that the Assystem team are trusted to deliver and reduce the gap to target. The other part of the work involves structural optimisation and simplification on the A321 XLR wing. Given the extra capabilities the model promises, the wing primary structure will be assessed against higher loads and air pressures. Further to this, fuel flammability, crash-worthiness and other risk assessments will have to be considered as the XLR model will be categorised by the Airworthiness Authorities as ‘Major’.
Assystem Technologies Isle of Man, as part of the wider group, is located in Braddan and covers the design and stress analysis of both air frame and interior structure. It is fantastic to have an Isle of Man company involved in such an internationally recognised project.
Adrian Moore, Chair of the Isle of Man Aerospace Cluster (IOMAC) commented on the opportunity:
‘This is a huge achievement for Assystem Technologies, as well as the IOMAC. We are delighted as the work will support jobs on the Island and help the cluster create opportunities, gain recognition and nurture talent.’
