What to Get Your Secret Santa?
28 November 2024
It’s that time of year where some bright spark in the office decides its time for secret Santa.
The feeling of dread as to who you’re going to get and, arguably more importantly, who is going to get you.
Many of us have been in this position and tried our best to opt out, but in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire style we find our names put into the goblet with no clue how its got there.
Regardless of how it has, we now find ourselves in the same position as Harry, but instead of facing the tri-wizard tournament, we have to get Ida from HR something that she won’t turn her nose up at.
Secret Santa
I have wracked by brain trying to sort secret Santa presents out and normally I must admit I opt to get the lucky person a signed picture of me.
Arrogant and self important? Yes, but you never know if one day I may hit the big time and that picture may have end up being the most valuable possession that person could own.
For many of you, you may not want to feel the fire sign energy of vanity and self importance, so I’ve thought of several presents you can get.
Self Care Presents
Instead of trying to get people to recognise your importance, you can try to get them to recognise theirs with your gift.
Wander down Ramsey high street and pop into Pure Inspiration and quite literally fill yourself with inspiration.
My ideal present to get here would be a Woodwick Candle. There is no better present. This isn’t just your average candle, it makes noise and smells GORGEOUS – I’d get the calming retreat one.
If you have someone that you think needs some good vibes, you can get them some crystals whilst here too.
If you feel like being a really nice person, and getting someone a present that they will be blown away by – get them a Brightlife voucher, you can’t go wrong here.
For those in the west of the island, you can mooch into Element Isle and spoil your lucky present receiver rotten.
Or mooch over the the east and pop into Mother T’s which is just the best hidden den for everything that makes you feel wonderful.
Southerners, you can also look in your local shops and grab a sauna voucher for Port Erin or head into Mantons, or how about a diving voucher from Port St Mary.
Edible Presents
You can’t really go wrong here, unless you get someone with a nut allergy a Snickers bar – maybe do some allergy snooping first.
Oh and don’t get someone who doesn’t drink a bottle of fizz from Foraging, because that sends even the best of us seasoned drinkers to the floor.
However, for those who do drink I would recommend getting your hands on a bottle of wine from Ventosus. I am a wine snob, and was only pleasantly surprised and how beautiful their wine is.
For the person with a severe sweet tooth we have a few chocolatiers on the island! You can go to Chocolates of Man, Davisons or Choccy Piccy Studio!
If you have someone who you think won’t like any of this, then I’d go to your local gift shop or book shop and get a photo frame, print out a picture of yourself, sign it and voila!
Think Local
With shop owners and staff all going the extra mile, you should think local first this Christmas.
The magic of in-person shopping brings the joy of human connection that you do not get through a laptop screen.
Not only do you get to bump into old friends and have personalised advice, you can feel confident in your Christmas purchases by shopping locally—you can see, touch, and even taste before you buy!
So before rushing off to buy your secret Santa present online in haste, make sure you stroll down your local high street and see what is on offer.
