5 Tips on How to Integrate Sustainability into your Business
Running a business is challenging, and sustainability might seem like just another hurdle. However, with the Isle of Man aiming to become a Net-Zero island, it’s time to view sustainability as a valuable project for your business, employees, and community.
Cambridge Cleantech, a leading network dedicated to fostering sustainable innovation, has provided 5 tips to get things moving:
1) Assess Your Operations: Identify areas to reduce your environmental footprint by analysing energy use, waste, water consumption, and supply chain practices.
2) Set Small, Achievable Goals: Start with clear, manageable goals to make steady progress toward sustainability.
3) Engage Your Team: Involve your team in sustainability initiatives, using frameworks like One Planet Living or the Carbon Literacy project to guide efforts.
4) Implement Good Practices: Improve energy efficiency, reduce waste, source locally, and share your sustainability practices responsibly to avoid greenwashing.
5) Monitor and Celebrate Progress: Track your achievements and celebrate milestones to maintain momentum and build a supportive community.

Success Story from the Isle of Man
Recycle Collect Limited is a kerbside recycling collection service that runs off a cloud based technology, creating a three prong approach that designs the most effective collection route on Island. We caught up with Clara Isaac, owner of recycle collect. Clara tells us more on how she started the business and introduces us to a few of her team members.
Innovation Challenge
The Innovation Challenge is a global competition where participants of all stages of development are invited to present ground-breaking solutions to address specific challenges and drive the growth of technical innovation in the Isle of Man. Finalist businesses in the Innovation Challenge gain a unique opportunity to collaborate with Government agencies, regulators, and local enterprises within a leading tech hub, allowing them to scale up their solutions for the global market.
The 2024 challenge harnessed the power of the Isle of Man’s world-leading, agile regulation to foster collaboration with local communities, resulting in sustainable and innovative technologies that tackle key issues in three core sectors - FinTech, Cleantech, and Artificial Intelligence.
The Cleantech category focused on embracing sustainability and environmental stewardship, and challenged entrepreneurs to fuse innovation with ecological consciousness, addressing critical issues related to our planet’s well-being.
The Final Event 2024
With over 50 applications from 20 countries worldwide, the Innovation Challenge 2024 saw 13 finalists face their industry peers on 13 June 2024. Each finalist had 10 minutes to present their ground-breaking solutions to address specific challenges and drive the growth of technological innovation in the Isle of Man.
The winners for the Cleantech category was Re-Universe for its innovative technology that promotes circularity, particularly through reuse. Watch the team’s 10-minute pitch in the video below.
